Michael Barkett is a native of Youngstown, Ohio, where he attended the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University. Following his undergraduate work, Barkett attended Michigan State University where he achieved his Master’s in Music Performance. He has attended the Aspen Music Festival and School as well as the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. His main teachers include Justin Emerich and Christopher Krummel. Other notable mentors include Raymond Mase of The Juilliard School as well as Peter Bond of the Metropolitan Opera. Michael is currently the Third/Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra and has performed as Gues Principal Trumpet of the Carmel Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Barkett is a founding member of the contemporary music ensemble, Hypotenuse Trio, based in Lansing, Michigan. Michael is an active teacher and clinician in the mid-Michigan area and is currently a Doctoral Graduate Teaching Assistant at Michigan State University.
